Family Tree Freebies Vinatge Mail Clip Art

I love it when my wonderful followers, whom I do so appreciate post comments. Until recently the only way for my readers to contact me was to post a comment. Fear of email harvesting spam bots finding it, and my email overflowing with spam has kept me from putting it on here. There are many ways to try to prevent this from happening, but I am only going to focus on what I did here. Check out Csarven.ca if want to learn more about minimizing visibility against spam bots.

I decided to encrypt my email and place it into an image on my side bar. First make a G-mail account just for this. G-mail is free and has spam controls as well. There is no full proof method to prevent email from being harvested and a Gmail account can be deleted and remade with a new address if they get through your precautions. Next, encrypt and embed your email address into an image you uploaded to the web and turn it into code. You can easily do that at Email Address Munger by clicking here. Go to blogger layout, click on the add a gadget on your sidebar, then add HTML, paste the code you generated into the newly opened window then click save.

Feel free to use the clip art I created, above and below for your email image. Please link back to this blog or grab my blog badge for your site if you use any of my vintage graphics. Thank you

William Ball and Sally Smith Graley, Marriage Record & License

In the Monroe County West Virginia Register Of Marriages, page 62 line 2, lists a John Bragg Minister of the Gospel, as performing the marriage ceremony of a William Ball, shoe and boot maker by profession , to a Sally Graley on the 30th of August 1866. William was 20 years her senior when he married, 30 year old, Sally. They both are listed as being born in Franklin Co. Virginia, William to Joseph and Elizabeth Ball and Sally only has her Father, Creed Smith, listed as her parents.

Now if William Ball was 50 years of age in 1866 that would mean he was born in 1816 in Franklin County Virginia. Joseph Ball Sr was born about 1783 in Franklin Co. Virginia, and in 1812 Joseph Ball Sr, married Catherine Comer in Monroe County Virginia. William's mother is listed in this record as Elizabeth Ball. So I have to think that Carol's William, mentioned here, in a previous post, is not the Unknown Male Ball that we thought he might be. He was born in 1816 after Joseph Ball Sr. married Catherine Comer. This brings up some interesting questions. Who is this Joseph and Elizabeth ? Could this Joseph be relative of Joseph Ball Sr? The 1810 Census has him living in Franklin County, Virginia and the 1820 Census has him living in Giles County, Virginia. So somewhere between 1810 and 1820 Joseph Ball Sr. married twice and moved from Franklin Virginia to Giles (West) Virginia. Could the above Elizabeth Ball possibly be Elizabeth Perdue? She is defiantly not the first wife of Joseph Ball Sr, Elizabeth Phillips Ball, married in 1805.

Cousin Connections!

Distant Cousin Carol let a comment on the Family Tree post here. I pasted the comment below to save on clicking around. I hope you don't mind Carol.

Here is my Responce;
Oh Carol, What a joy it is to hear from a cousin you didn't know you had. :) Yippie! This blogging thing is starting to pay off. I have only been working on our family tree for a little over a year now. I have found a marriage record on Ancestry, of a Joseph Ball marrying an Elizabeth Perdue on the 15th September, 1804, Sur. Meshack Perdue. * Have you heard of this Elizabeth?
Jos Sr. married your Great Grandmother Elizabeth Phillps ont 14th of April 1805. Ancestry has them as follows Ball, Joseph and Elizabeth Phillips, dau. James, May 7, 1804. Sur. Jesse Chappel.* I am not quite sure as to how to read these things yet but I am working on it. And your William Ball looks to be the Unknown Male Ball. Carol please email me at Contact Me Or post a comment to this post with your email so that we can compare notes.

Carols Post

"rosie- my name is carol ball wieland. i live in columbus ohio i have been researching my family tree for about 2 years i had taken a few months break from searching and was delighted to find your blog when i typed in ball family of west virginia about a week ago i too am descended from joseph ball sr of boone county (i think) my great great grandfather was reuben ball born in monroe county wv in 1828 i was stuck with this much info until my aunt gave me a few tips that he had lived a longer life than i could find evidence of this led me to reuben's death certificate from noble county ohio from the date of death i was able to locate his obituary from the wellston ohio paper the wellston telegraph in this his parents are listed as william and rebecca ball census records and marriage records then led me to find william ball b. 1807 living in monroe county wv for most of his life his first wife was rebecca pinkney once again i was stuck until i found william's record of marriage to his second wife sally (sarah) graley dated aug 30 1866 in this his parents are listed as joseph and elizabeth ball william was listed as having been born in franklin virginia for a long time i did not realize that the joseph ball of boone county was william's father i finally put those pieces together this past winter and started looking for joseph sr's father once again i ( and it seems others are stuck) so you can see why i was happy to find someone else who is in the same place as i am as a side note i was also wondering if anyone knows the graveyard where joseph sr is buried i hope i wasn't too confusing i will tell you my computer skills are not the greatest but i look forward to corresponding with you or anyone else who can enlighten me in any way!!"

1820 Census Giles County Virginia

In 1820 Joseph Ball Sr. was living in Pearisburg, Giles County, Virginia with his second wife Catherine (Comer) Ball. Along their first four children and the three from Joseph's first marriage with Elizabeth Phillips. Two of these seven children's names are unknown at this time, one being his first born son. Now I read somewhere that, then, it was a tradition to name the first born child after the Grandparents and the second born after the parents. Jos and Catherine seemed to follow this tradition with their children but naming the first born son Augustus after her Father and Joseph H Ball Jr. was their second born son. Could the Unknown Male Ball have his Grandfather's name thus revealing who Joseph Ball Sr's Daddy is?

1810 Franklin County Virginia Census

Joseph Ball Sr. was 27 years old when the 1810 Census was taken, and still living where he was born in Franklin County, then The Commonwealth of Virginia. He was then married to his first wife Elizabeth Phillips Ball, and living next two his in laws, John Phillips and James Phillips. Elizabeth Phillips was still alive and is recorded to be over 45. Which I find a bit strange. She dies within the next two years because Joseph Ball Sr. marries my 6X Great Grandmother Catharine Comer Ball in 1812. Joseph and Elizabeth's oldest daughter Temperance 'Tempy' Ball was about 5 years old and their son was, name still unknown, was between 2 and 4 years of age, and Elizabeth was a newborn when this census was taken.
